Food Nearby in La Jolla

Immediate walking (a couple blocks)

 Coffee & Breakfast

The Pannikin  Coffee, Tea and breakfast . A great way to start your day.   Walk through the alley to Girard street and head downhill toward Pearl.  It’s on the right side of the street with the old wood deck and lots of locals holding conversations.

The Brick and the Bell
Great coffee.  Good pastry and breakfast options.

Harry's Coffee Shop

Traditional diner style food.  A La Jolla institution, owned by a local family.   Busy on the weekends.

The Lot  Upscale movie theatre with restaurant down the street on Fay.   Wednesdays are discount movie tickets and Tuesday night is a taco bar and salsa dancing night.  They open for breakfast and stay open at the bar until late.

Fine Dining

Du Marche – Traditional french fine dining.   They have a great happy hour menu that can be taken seated at an old style bar or outside on the sidewalk.   Walk through the alley to Girard street behind us .  Du Marche is almost directly across the street.

Grocery Stores

Vons  Major grocery store that is right across Pearl street.

Valley Farm Market  Has an excellent butcher shop.  And a great place to pick up pre-made meals. (walkable but you may want to drive)

Desserts

Froglanders -   Frozen yogurt right on the corner of Fay and Pearl.   Nice owners.   When I want something more than yogurt, I get the acai bowl and add peanut butter.   And the crepes are good too.

Michelle Coloun Dessertier  - Elegant french desserts.  Macaron, small bites are the best, and the lemon cake.  Just a block over on Fay across from Vons, in the back of the Sycamore courtyard.

Lunch & Dinner

Longer Walk (But still in La Jolla)
The Taco Stand – Order at the counter and wait for your order. Very popular taco shop with house made corn tortillas.  You can save time by ordering online or over the phone and skip to the front but the tacos are better fresh off the assembly line.

Mr. Moto Pizza Right next to the Taco Stand.  Pizza reminiscent of east coast pizza but with California style toppings.  My favorite traditional pizza in town.  Good take out.  Dine in with a salad.  Not a place to sit and savor a meal though. Just a step above fast food in terms of seating.

Aroi Thai  Across the street in the Vons parking lot.  Decent reasonably priced Thai food.   Dine in but the ambience is a bit odd for a Thai establishment.

Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza A La Jolla staple.  Mixture of Mediterranean, Asian fusion foods.  Good happy hour.   Pizzas are California good. Comfortable seating.  Can be loud but has a happy energy.

Girard Gourmet – Owned by Francois, Belgian baker and chef, and Diane.   Great for premade takeout or a breakfast onsite.

Puesto -  It’s gotten a bit more expensive.  Good tequilas and tacos made with ingredients and style from Mexico City.

Herringbone – Interesting décor.   Full bar.  Kind of a scene.  Usually I eat in the bar .

Bobboi Natural Gelato – I like gelato and make my own.  Bobboi has the best gelato with full flavors of any place that I’ve tried, including Italy (admittedly it’s been a long time since I tasted gelato there).
