Tips for Using the Swamp Coolers / Evaporative Coolers at Casa De Colores
I grew up on the east coast with its high humidity summers, where evaporative cooling is ineffective, so I didn't really know how to use them. Here are a few things that I have learned but I am also grateful for tips from more experienced guests than I. Most of the time I don't bother to turn the units on, but sometimes its nice to have cold air blowing on you. We've had a pretty hot June so far in summer of 2021.
Strategies for Keeping the House Cool:
- Close doors and windows during the day. The casa has pretty thick walls that keep the temperature pretty constant.
- Open windows (& use the screen door) in the evening. Night time temperatures drop to very comfortable numbers. With windows and doors open when it cools off, it keeps the house cool.
- Use the BBQ, instead of the oven. The oven in my house vents alot of heat into the kitchen, which is nice in winter, but not great in the summer. Use the grill on the patio when you can. Let me know if you need more propane. I try to keep it stocked but sometimes people don't tell me when they finish or replace.
- Use the ceiling fans in the bedrooms.
When I do these things, I generally find that the house is pretty comfortable, even on hot days in the summer.
